CCIE Challenge Question
This week's question
Which of the following are methods of avoiding EIGRP-related congestion in an NMBA network with a large number of neighbors?
(Choose 2)
a) Increase the hello timer
b) Increase the hold timer
c) Increase the congestion timer
d) Use point-to-point subinterfaces with varying hello timers
Answer
a) Increase the hello timer
d) Use point-to-point subinterfaces with varying hello timers
Explanation
Increasing the hello timer lessens the number of hello packets sent out per interval. Using point-to-point subinterfaces with varying hello timers also helps because it relieves the burst of traffic that can occur with one fixed hello interval -- instead it spreads it out. Increasing the hold time does not decrease the traffic, and there is no such thing as a congestion timer.
