EIGRP
Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP) bears almost no
resemblance to its predecessor (IGRP), beyond the configuration
commands. EIGRP is a completely new protocol. It successfully addresses most
network scalability needs, while remaining (relatively) simple to set up and
maintain. EIGRP is an advanced distance-vector protocol, meaning it makes
decisions based on metric information it receives from its
neighbors. However it employs some of the advanced mechanisms of the
link-state protocols. It establishes neighbor relationships with adjacent
routers, it sends only changes in its updates, and it keeps a topology
database.
